CHS students win Optimist Club oratorical contest

The Optimist Club of Carrollton held its annual Oratorical on Tuesday, Jan. 20, advancing the top two scoring contestants at the local club level to area competition. Carrollton High School sophomore Alex Martinez Rolon earned first place in the oratorical contest, and CHS sophomore Rian Nestor won second place. Since its start in 1928, the Optimist Oratorical Contest has become the longest-running program sponsored by Optimist International. The contest is designed for youth to gain experience in public speaking, perfect self-expression, gain self-assurance, improve communication skills, and provide them with the opportunity to compete for a college scholarship.
