Six Carrollton High School Class of 2026 graduates earned the Georgia Seal of Biliteracy, celebrating Georgia students who have demonstrated a high level of proficiency in English and another language through earning exceptional scores on assessments. CHS International Baccalaureate (IB) program graduates Wilfredo Bonilla-Canales, Erik Garcia, Jaira Garcia Cruz, Luis Marti, Marco Rodriguez, and Elliot Williamson earned scores of 5 or higher on their IB Spanish exams, demonstrating their strong cultural and linguistic knowledge.
According to the Georgia Department of Education, the Seal of Biliteracy is a “prestigious recognition [that] appears on the diploma and transcript, highlighting students’ linguistic capabilities to colleges, employers, and scholarship committees.” As these graduates continue in their academic journeys, this honor indicates their proficiency and celebrates the preparation they received through their IB courses at Carrollton High School.
“Second language development is a key requirement of the IB Diploma Program. Students in the program have the opportunity to extend their second language acquisition beyond that offered in the school more broadly,” said CHS IB Program Coordinator Dr. Noah Brewer.
Carrollton High School’s IB program offers students a total of 18 exam opportunities to test their content knowledge. The IB coursework aims to provide students with a well-rounded education, citing strength in cultural and linguistic diversity.
“Earning the Georgia Seal of Biliteracy is a testament to the dedication and rigorous effort these students put into their studies and the impressive example they have set for current CHS students,” said CHS Principal Dr. Eric Simmons. “In an increasingly interconnected world, mastering a second language opens doors to higher education and career opportunities that will set them apart long after they leave Carrollton High School. We are proud of this group and look forward to continuing to celebrate all that they will accomplish.”
