Dirt is moving at the new Bailey Commons development in the Thomas Crossroads area, a project The City Menus first covered a few months ago. Progress is now taking shape at the site as work continues on the mixed-use development.
Nathan Dockery and The Dockery Group are behind Bailey Commons, which is already well underway. Dockery explained that the project currently has 75% of its site work completed, and half of its commercial spaces have been leased. At the same time, The Dockery Group is also moving forward with another major project in Grantville, Georgia. This development will be located just one block from downtown Grantville at the old yarn mill and is planned to bring a mix of dining options, entertainment spaces, shopping, and residential living to the area.
This project has already been approved by the Environmental Protection Division for the Brownfield Program, and the development is in the final stages of getting a Corrective Action Plan. The majority of the yarn mill will be preserved and renovated to meet the needs of this project, except for two smaller sections that need to be torn down due to environmental contamination.
This development spans across 13 acres. The mill itself will house residential lofts and commercial space, while an added area will boast a rooftop bar, a food hall, retail space, and lounges. Outside will be a massive greenspace for gatherings and a stage for outdoor concerts. Behind the mill will be a residential area featuring cottages and stacked lofts, with several additional commercial spaces. The Dockery Group hopes to begin cleanup and demolition by the end of this year, and aspires to have the project completed by early 2028.
Nathan Dockery, the owner of the Dockery Group, expressed his gratitude for the support this project has received from the mayor of Grantville, Richard Proctor. Dockery stated, “The mayor has been a key component of bringing this project to fruition.”
Alongside the Grantville project, the Dockery Group will work on a sister project down the road in Hogansville. The goals of the projects remain similar: “wanting to create a space that serves the community and brings people together.” The 600,000 square feet of existing buildings for the Hogansville project is currently undergoing rezoning and will be developed on the site of the city’s former textile mill. Dockery and his partners are excited to work alongside the cities of Grantville and Hogansville to reimagine what these historic properties can become while bringing something truly unique to Atlanta’s southside communities.
