West Georgia Technical College (WGTC) welcomed more than 1220 students and approximately 39 companies at two Manufacturing Day events this month, connecting the next generation to careers and opportunities from industry partners. The first event took place at WGTC’s LaGrange Campus and was in partnership with the LaGrange Development Authority, and the other event took place at WGTC’s Carroll Campus.

Designed as an interactive trade show rather than a traditional job fair, National Manufacturing Day events encouraged students to explore a variety of career pathways, experience modern manufacturing in action, and interact with cutting-edge technology.

Students visited booths and interactive displays that showcased a wide range of manufacturing industries including automotive, firearms, healthcare items, household items, parts manufacturing, and textiles. The events provided opportunities for students to connect directly with industry professionals, learn about the skills employers are seeking, and discover the diverse careers available in manufacturing.

Manufacturing continues to play a vital role in Georgia’s economy and workforce. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the industry employed more than 426,000 Georgians in August 2026. Additionally, manufacturing accounted for 67% of new jobs announced through Georgia Department of Economic Development projects during fiscal year 2026, highlighting the industry’s importance to the state’s economic future.

As manufacturing continues to evolve through advancements in automation, robotics, and other technologies, the industry offers career opportunities that extend far beyond traditional production roles. From welding and precision machining to industrial maintenance and advanced manufacturing, these careers require specialized technical skills and offer pathways for professional growth.

“We need to continue bringing together our young people, community leaders, and industry partners to build a better understanding of the importance of manufacturing,” said Dr. Julie Post, President of WGTC. “As innovation and technology continue to transform the industry, it’s important that we work together to change perceptions of manufacturing and highlight the exciting career opportunities it offers.”

Through hands-on training, industry partnerships, and career-focused technical education, WGTC plays an important role in preparing students for careers in manufacturing while helping regional employers meet their workforce needs. Events like Manufacturing Day strengthen those connections by introducing students to the technologies, skills, and opportunities shaping the future of the industry.
