Bremen City Schools continues to focus on student success, facility improvements and community involvement following the Bremen Board of Education’s regular meeting on Friday, November 6, 2026.
Board Chairman Vann Pelt welcomed those in attendance as board members gathered to discuss district updates, upcoming initiatives and plans for the new year.
One of the highlights of the meeting was the unanimous approval of the district’s Unified Literacy Plan. The plan reflects the school system’s continued attention to literacy instruction and student learning across the district.
Board members also approved a revision to Policy IHE, which addresses student promotion and retention. The proposed revision will be made available for public review, giving the community an opportunity to examine the changes.
Improvements to athletic facilities were another focus of the meeting. The board approved a request for bullpen improvements at the Bremen High School baseball field, supporting the continued development of facilities used by student-athletes.
Community partnerships also remained a priority, with the board approving several requests for the use of school facilities. The Bremen Education Foundation received approval to use Blue Devil Family Park, while Pathfinder Volleyball Club was approved to use the Bremen High School gym. The board also approved requests from 5-Star Bremen Baseball to use the Bremen Middle School baseball field and the Bremen Takedown Club to use the middle school gym.
These approvals provide opportunities for local organizations to utilize school facilities for athletic and community activities.
The district also shared updated enrollment figures, reporting a total of 2,283 students across its four schools. Bremen High School currently serves 700 students, Bremen Middle School has 530 students, Bremen Academy has 345 students and Jones Elementary School has 708 students.
Board members received written updates covering several areas of district operations, including curriculum and instruction, student support services, programs and activities, school nutrition, facilities and technology. These reports help keep board members informed about the work taking place throughout the school system.
The board also unanimously approved several personnel recommendations. Brittany Hanes and Hannah Waldrop were approved as substitute teachers, while Lee Detweiler was approved as a maintenance substitute. Chase Ellis was approved to serve as a community coach for Bremen High School basketball.
Looking ahead, the board approved its schedule of work sessions and regular meetings for 2027. Meetings will generally take place on the second Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m., with work sessions typically held the preceding Friday at 7 a.m.
Some adjustments have been made to accommodate school breaks and scheduling needs. The April work session and regular meeting will both take place on April 12, while the July work session and board meeting are scheduled for July 9, with the board meeting beginning at 8:30 a.m.
The district’s annual board retreat and required training are scheduled for May 27 and 28, 2027.
