Residents who live, shop and work on the Thornton Rd corridor will soon have an additional place of convenience…coincidently a convenience store.  Murphy USA, which runs fuel centers in partnership with Walmart, plans to open a new 15 pump center at the Walmart on Thornton Rd and Blairs Bridge Rd. The center will be located in the parking lot towards the Blairs Bridge entrance near the shopping outparcel that houses La Fiesta. Today the Douglasville Menu was in attendance of the “groundbreaking” ceremony….although clearly the building and center are already halfway built. According to the representatives on site today, the fuel center will be ready at the end of April and transferred over to employees for operations and training at that time. Expected opening is around May 5, weather, construction and preparation permitting. We asked if Murphy USA had plans for the Walmart on Hwy 5 to receive a new fuel center, the answer was “not at this time and go around”. Operations and site selections by Murphy USA are done on a yearly basis and the Concourse Pkwy location was not selected this year. But the representative did say that depending on conditions being met by Walmart and by Murphy USA it is entirely possible that Concourse Pkwy is selected in the next go around or future selections. We’ll be there for the opening in May and any new details on the opening, we’ll of course bring them to you.
