SpinnerZ Family Skate Center is hosting a special weekend-long event October 10-12, 2014 to combat childhood obesity by skating a million miles in honor of National Roller Skating Month. This year’s theme, “Fitness and Fun Come in All Sizes, ” is an important message that anyone, no matter what size or shape, can find fitness an fun at our rink. The Roller Skating Association International wants people to know that roller skating is one of the few activities that provides a complete aerobic workout for over 640 of the body’s muscles – especially the heart. Families, kids, and teens are encouraged to come to SpinnerZ Family Skate Center and dedicate themselves to achieving an active lifestyle and join the RSA as we roller skate a million miles during National Roller Skating Month.
“Roller skating has been seeing a major upswing in the last several years. From music videos to sitcoms featuring roller skating, you are more likely than ever to see popular pop icons like Justin Bieber or Beyonce spotted at your local skating rink. Roller skating is seeing an upswing of adults returning to this beloved activity, for both fun and fitness” said John Payne. “These adults now bring their children to enjoy one of their favorite activities together as a family. With the rise in popularity of roller derby, speed skating and artistic figure skating, roller skating centers are opening throughout the world at an amazing pace to keep this timeless popular activity alive.”
Roller skating is a unique way to achieve health benefits while having fun. The average person can burn 350 calories by skating at a rate of six miles per hour. This number increases to 600 calories if that same person averages 10 miles per hour. Roller skating centers have partnered with The President’s Challenge Program and Let’s Move with the mission of keeping kids active and healthy in a safe environment. Roller skating is also recommended by the American Heart Association as an aerobic fitness sport.
