Central High School S.T.E.M. Team Takes Top Honors at UWG

(Carrollton, Ga. – May 15, 2015) Central High School science students competed in and
won their first S.T.E.M. Competition, which was held at the University of West Georgia in early May. Students worked both in class and independently to study and prepare for the rigorous competition.

The competition consisted of four separate events which focused on different areas of science. Competitive areas were:

  • ●  Team Writing over Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs)
  • ●  Quiz Bowl both written and face-face applications covering Advanced Placement (AP)
  • ●  Environmental Science
  • ●  Skill-Based Lab Performance in the area of Geology; rock and mineral identification
  • ●  Design and Engineering covering passive solar house

    Central High School’s team took first place in Design and Engineering, Lab-Based Skills, and in the Quiz Bowl These first place awards earned the S.T.E.M. Team the overall Champion award. The S.T.E.M. Team is coached by Dr. Cynthia Beers and Ms. Cyndi Crews.
