Tanner Medical Center/Villa Rica Among ‘100 Great Community Hospitals’

For the second consecutive year, Becker’s Hospital Review has named Tanner Medical Center/Villa Rica among the nation’s “100 Great Community Hospitals,” a list based on community hospitals’ accolades, quality and service to their communities.

The hospital was just one of two Georgia community hospitals on Becker’s list. Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton also placed among the 100 Great Community Hospitals.
Becker’s defined community hospitals as facilities with fewer than 550 beds and that have minimal teaching programs. Some facilities featured on the publication’s list are in suburban areas near major cities while others are found in rural towns, serving as the only hospitals in their communities. The listing was based on rankings and awards from iVantage Health Analytics, Truven Health Analytics and CareChex.

“Being named by Becker’s, the healthcare industry’s leading magazine for hospital business news and analysis, to this list for the second year in a row is another remarkable accomplishment for Tanner Medical Center/Villa Rica,” said Loy Howard, president and CEO of Tanner Health System. “Everyone in the Villa Rica area can rest assured that an unparalleled level of care is available close to home at their community hospital.”

In March, Tanner Medical Center/Villa Rica was named to Truven Health Analytics’ 100 Top Hospitals list for the second consecutive year. The hospital was among just three Georgia hospitals to place on the list — Emory University Hospital placed among major teaching hospitals and Hamilton Medical Center was recognized among large community hospitals. Tanner Medical Center/Villa Rica placed in the small community hospitals category.

“I’m so proud of the hard work everyone here is putting into keeping our facility on top for quality and patient care,” said Bonnie Boles, MD, MBA, administrator of Tanner Medical Center/Villa Rica. “I’m grateful for our physicians, nurses, technologists and all the other clinical and nonclinical staff who are making this a destination for leading-edge care.”

Tanner Medical Center/Villa Rica offers a full line of quality healthcare services, including cardiac care, a 24-hour emergency department staffed by board-certified emergency physicians, maternity services, minimally invasive surgical services, orthopedic care, ENT services, pediatric care, gastroenterology services, hospitalist services for improved inpatient care, advanced diagnostic imaging services and more.

The hospital also provides locations for Tanner Breast Health, offering digital mammography services and access to the full continuum of care of Tanner Cancer Care, and the Tanner Center for Sleep Disorders. The hospital also offers the Tanner MS Center, providing specialized care for multiple sclerosis in an environment designed by MS patients. Tanner Medical Center/Villa Rica patients benefit from the care of a system-wide medical staff of more than 300 physicians representing 34 medical specialties.
Earlier this year, plans were announced for major facility and service expansions for the facility, including an expanded emergency department, surgical services center and maternity center, as part of Tanner’s Advancing Health initiative. The hospital also will begin offering percutaneous coronary interventions (PCIs), also called angioplasty, at the end of August.
