Forecast from The National Weather Service

The National Weather Service (NWS) held a Special Weather Briefing this morning in reference to the forecast winter precipitation tonight and Saturday.

The  Winter Weather Advisory has been extended further South and is now generally along and north of a Heard County to Fayette County to Henry County line.  A  Winter Storm Warning has been issued for extreme North Georgia generally along and north of a Dade, Walker, Catoosa, Whitfield and Gordon County line.  Some areas in northeast Georgia are already seeing 6+ inches of snow.

The Winter Weather Advisory runs from 3:00 pm today to 7:00 pm Saturday and the current forecast is projecting a 1/2 to 1 inch of snow accumulation for our area.  Rain today will start to change to snow between 4:00 to 6:00 pm and turn to all snow by 10:00 pm and remain all snow until it begins to diminish overnight tonight.

Special Note to those needing to travel the Interstates:  The Georgia DOT has asked that motorists try to be off the interstates by 3:00 pm today so they can treat those roads between 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm before the rain changes to snow

A Wind Advisory will be in effect Saturday.  Winds will gust to 20-25 mph and could gust as high as 35 mph during the day on Saturday

.At this time, temperatures in our area are forecast to rise above freezing Saturday afternoon so any accumulation should melt but this will be based on the amount of snow on the ground.

No further briefings are scheduled at this time but we will provide additional information as it is received from the National Weather Service.
