We got word of a great community event happening in just a few weeks here in Douglas County. The 2nd Annual “Dash For Dr. George” will take place on April 16 at Clinton Nature Preserve. We got the info from one of the event organizers:
The 2nd Annual “Dash For Dr. George” is right around the corner, Saturday, April 16th @ 8AM. The “Dash” will take place at beautiful and scenic Clinton Nature Preserve in Villa Rica, GA. Runners, walkers, spectators, volunteers, and sponsors are all welcome to join us, as we raise funds to help end Esophageal Cancer. Both the 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run will be on a combination of grass, roads, and trails with packed dirt, gravel, an…d some rocks. The trails are suitable for all ages and abilities.
The Second Annual “Dash For Dr. George” is in honor of Dr. George L. Harkins of Douglasville, GA ,Gene Barnes of Marietta, GA, and to all who have been affected by Esophageal Cancer, both patients and families. This horrific disease is currently the fastest growing cancer in the US. It is also the 7th deadliest cancer in the world. Early detection of the disease is very important. “Dash For Dr. George” is a fundraiser for the Esophageal Cancer Education Foundation (ECEF). With your support, we hope to raise funds to help ECEF accomplish their mission. The Esophageal Cancer Education Foundation’s goals are to bring awareness and educate the public about this terrible disease, to help patients who have the disease, and to financially support research projects that focus on EC. April is Esophageal Cancer Awareness Month.
This is a great fun springtime event for a great cause! Below we have the registration flyer and form. More info and background on the event is available on their Facebook page and on their website. Thank you to Erin Harkins Silliman for the heads up and info!
