2016 “Yes I Can” Awards Ceremony

(Carrollton, Ga. ­ April 13, 2016) On April 12, 2016, The Exceptional Children’s Services Department of Carroll County Schools held the 5th annual “Yes I Can” awards ceremony at Midway Baptist Church. The Council for Exceptional Children started this event in 1981 to acknowledge the achievements of children/youth with disabilities; to overcome barriers caused by public misconceptions; to encourage children/youth with disabilities to seek their highest potential; and to increase public awareness of the abilities, aspirations and personal qualities of people with disabilities. On Tuesday evening, students of all ages from all schools in Carroll County were recognized for their individual accomplishments. Special professional and student awards included:

● Art Contest Winners ­- Michael Edgens from Mt. Zion Elementary, Omarion Henderson from Bay Springs Middle School, and Racheal Davis from Bowdon High School

● Community Service Award – Tracy Young from Carrollton Parks and Recreation

● ECS Professional of the Year Award -­ Tammy Spraggins from Carroll County Transportation

● ECS Outstanding Educator of the Year Award ­- Shea Childers from Temple Elementary
