The Douglas County Board of Commissioners has declared September as “PTA Membership Enrollment Month” for the Douglas County School System. Representatives from the Douglas County PTA Council and Georgia PTA were on hand to read and receive the proclamation from the Commissioners.

PTA – Parent Teacher Association – has the Mission of making every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children. The PTA is the strongest voice outside of the classroom and home to help children achieve in school. It is the oldest and largest child advocacy association in the Nation.

PTA’s values include collaboration, commitment, diversity, respect, and accountability, and speaks with one voice for every student. The PTA’s network provides parents with the tools to influence the decisions that affect their children.

Locally, PTA organizations exist in every Douglas County school to serve as a collaborative entity with the teachers and administrators to provide the very best in education for students. Membership in a school’s PTA is not mandatory, but does engage the student’s parents with the student’s school in an unique way for positive results.

The proclamation issued by the Board of Commissioners encourages all parents to become members of their local school’s PTA and to become involved.
