For the second year, Carrollton City Schools Nutrition Director, Dr. Linette Dodson, has been asked to present at the Georgia Education Leadership Institute, an annual meeting of educational leaders from across the state.
The meeting, hosted by the Georgia Department of Education and held Sept. 7-9 at the Marriott Marquis hotel in downtown Atlanta, brought together school superintendents, administrators, principals, and other educational leaders to discuss and learn through a variety of break-out sessions over the three-day conference.
Dodson presented with Peggy Lawrence, School Nutrition director for Rockdale County Schools. Their session, titled “Your Secret Weapon for Educational Success! Discover the Unlocked Resource in Your Building,” will focus on research that links strong academic performance to proper nutrition and how school meals play a powerful role in school success.
Under Dodson’s leadership, the Carrollton City Schools Nutrition program has received numerous awards for innovation and education efforts. The most recent honor was presented this past summer when Carrollton City Schools was one of only three districts in the state to receive the Georgia Grown System of Distinction Award, presented by the Georgia Department of Agriculture.
The district also has earned the prestigious Golden Radish award, a farm-to-school initiative promoting fresh fruits and vegetables, and all four schools have been recognized nationally by the USDA as Healthier U.S. School Challenge schools. Dodson was also named state School Nutrition Director of the Year in 2013.
