    Foodie Review: American Pie Pizzeria

American Pie Pizzeria, located in the middle of Maple Street in Carrollton, is a family-owned, family-oriented local business. Walking into the restaurant brought back memories of being in a popular, after-school hangout.

The décor features photographs and memorableia from local sports teams, as well as TVs which can be found at every corner throughout the restaurant. The staff is friendly and very helpful.

Most people know about American Pie’s butter balls, but a little birdy told me to try the Buffalo Chips as an appetizer. The Buffalo Chips are thinly baked pizza dough (they are almost like a potato chip), with buffalo sauce spread over the dough. The order is big enough to feed 6 to 8 people, and is served with ranch.

I chose one of American Pie’s specialties, The Ranch Pie with Chicken pizza. I found the dish to be outstanding, not too doughy, but also not as thin as traditional New York Pizza. It’s the perfect ratio of dough-to-sauce-to-toppings.

The marinara sauce is not overly sweet, but has a rich and hearty tomato taste, which is perfect. Aside from the pizzas, the best kept secret on the menu is the Calzone. I ordered the Signature, which included 5 meats (they will make any specialty as well).

The calzone was stuffed with toppings to the point that meat was falling out. Most calzones are too bready, but the American Pie Calzone has almost as much meat as it does dough. The calzone could easily feed two hungry people. The dough was almost pretzel-like with the meat being spread throughout the entire calzone so that every bite had a piece of meat.

American Pie offers a lunch buffet for only $7. The buffet includes everything from specialty pizzas to cinnamon dessert rolls.

Unbeknownst to many customers, American Pie offers lighter wraps for a fewer-calories option. The restaurant also features a back room with seating for up to 68 guests. The room also contains a 15 foot projection screen.

American Pie offers fast and friendly service which can feed over 150 people in one hour. I found American Pie Pizzeria to be a great family restaurant, and will definitely go back!
