(Carrollton, Ga. – February 28, 2017) Carroll County High Schools were among those recognized by the Georgia Department of Education for high achievement in their Advanced Placement programs.
Central High was recognized as an AP Champion School, AP STEM Achievement School and AP STEM School. Temple High School was recognized as an AP Challenge School and AP STEM School. Bowdon High School was named a AP Challenge School, and Villa Rica High School was recognized as an AP STEM School.
“Carroll County High Schools have a history of being recognized for their outstanding academic performance,” said Scott Cowart, Superintendent of Carroll County Schools. “We are very proud of our administrators, teachers, and students for continuing to meet and exceed our expectations for academic excellence.”
Over the last several years, Carroll County High Schools have earned many AP Honors. Central High School was one of only five schools in Georgia to earn the distinction of being a 2017 AP Champion School.
Jared Griffis, Principal at Central High School stated, “Earning three Advanced Placement distinctions in a school year is a tremendous accomplishment. I believe achieving this high level of recognition in consecutive years speaks to the culture we work to continually sustain at Central High. Diligently striving to always provide premier opportunities and instruction for our students has allowed our students to compete with the state and the nation’s best. I could not be prouder of our AP students and AP teachers who made these honors possible.”
AP Honor Schools are selected based on the results of 2016 AP courses and exams. Only 59 schools in the state were named AP Challenge Schools, while 128 were recognized as AP STEM Achievement Schools and 204 received recognition for being AP STEM Schools.
