The Heard County Courthouse will soon be under large-scale renovations. The County is currently accepting proposals on the project, and the Board of Commissioners will make a decision on the project on January 23.
“Our courthouse is 53 years old, and it hasn’t really had any modern renovations in a long time,” said County Clerk Patty Jiles. “It really needs some new plumbing, wiring, and roofing. There are some cosmetic needs for the building as well.”
Jiles said that all administrative functions are being moved to a new building that was recently constructed by the County.
“Once the courthouse is remodeled, it will be strictly used for courts and voter registrar,” said Jiles.
The County hopes to begin the remodeling soon after the Board of Commissioners’ meeting on January 23. The project is expected to take at least 12 months.
