(January 31, 2018, Carrollton, Georgia). Central High School Senior, Anna Handley, has been named Central High School’s STAR Student for the graduating Class of 2018. The Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program honors Georgia’s highest achieving high school seniors and the teacher who has been most influential in their academic development. The program is sponsored by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) Foundation.
To obtain the STAR nomination, high school seniors must have the highest score on any single test date of the three-part SAT taken through the November test date of their senior year and be in the top 10% or top 10 students of their class, based on grade point average.
Anna Handley selected Mr. David Rooks as her PAGE STAR Teacher. Mr. Rooks taught Anna in both Advanced Placement (AP) Human Geography and AP World History classes. David Rooks has been part of the Central High School faculty since the 2004-2005 school year. He serves as Social Studies Department Chair and is extremely honored to be selected as STAR Teacher.
Ms. Handley currently serves as Secretary of the senior class, President of Beta Club, Secretary of Spanish Honor Society, and Parliamentarian of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). Anna was the driving force, organizing Central High Schools donation drive for victims of Hurricane Harvey in October 2017. She regularly donates blood and time with the American Red Cross, as well as supporting other local community service organizations and events.
Anna has been accepted into the Georgia Institute of Technology and will begin working on her Earth and Atmospheric Science degree in the fall. She is the daughter of Olivia and Thomas Handley and has one brother, Nathan.
