A Georgia Department of Transportation project is bringing pedestrian and safety improvements to a busy Villa Rica intersection. Construction has begun at Georgia Highway 61/Carrollton-Villa Rica Highway and NE Hickory Level Road to improve the safety of pedestrians crossing the intersection. According Dr. Mohamed Arafa, District Six Communications Officer for GDOT, “[The project] is intended to improve the overall efficiency and pedestrian safety at the intersection with improved crosswalks, pedestrian signals and sidewalk ramps.”

Dr. Arafa stated that the work in Villa Rica is part of a larger project to bring pedestrian and safety improvements to four other intersections in the region, including:

  • US Highway 27 and Georgia Highway 120 in Buchanan (Haralson County)
  • Atlantic Avenue/Pacific Avenue (US Highway 78) and Alabama Avenue/Hamilton Avenue (US Highway 27 Business) in Bremen (Haralson County)
  • Two locations in Floyd County

“The entire project is scheduled to be completed by the end of October 2018, at a construction cost of $1,207,528,” Dr. Arafa added.
