Macy’s will donate more than $31,500 to the Atlanta Community Food Bank during a check presentation and volunteer event at the food bank this Friday, July 27. Each March through Macy’s Bag Hunger campaign, Macy’s, Inc., colleagues and customers come together to alleviate hunger in local communities, providing year-round support to local food banks, including emergency food assistance programs and summer meals for children who typically rely on school meal programs. This year, local Macy’s stores in Atlanta raised more than $31,500 for the Atlanta Community Food Bank, which provides food to those in need across metro Atlanta and north Georgia.Through monetary donations, food and volunteer service, Macy’s, Inc. and its colleagues have raised and donated the equivalent of $39 million – that translates to 155 million pounds of food or 130 million meals – for local communities since 1998. The month-long campaign encourages a commitment from Macy’s 140,000 colleagues to go out into their communities to give back and volunteer their time – 17,000 hours were volunteered in 2017 in food pantries and fundraising events such as meal preparation at food banks, meal service at soup kitchens and grocery delivery to homebound seniors.
