Dollar General’s presence in Douglas County continues to expand, as construction of a new store in Douglasville is currently underway.
“When choosing store locations, meeting customers’ needs is Dollar General’s top priority,” explained spokeswoman Angela Petkovic. “The company looks for places where we can offer customers an easy and convenient shopping choice.”
Located at 3690 Highway 166, the 7,300-square-foot building will employ approximately 10 staff members, depending on store needs. While many traditional brick-and-mortar retailers have closed due to domination by e-commerce, retail corporations like Dollar General are one of the few that are still flourishing.
“ We know convenience is a major factor in our customers’ shopping decisions, as we generally serve customers within a three to five-mile radius, or 10-minute drive,” said Petkovic.
Dollar General was originally founded in 1939 by Cal Turner, Sr. and his son, J.L. Turner. In 1955, the father-and-son team opened their first location in 1955 in Springfield, Kentucky. Delivering low prices on everyday items—including food, snacks, health and beauty aids, cleaning supplies, and more—Dollar General currently operates more than 15,000 stores in 44 states.
On July 14, Dollar General celebrated the grand opening of its 15,000th store in Wilmington, North Carolina. Company executives hosted a community celebration and donated $15,000 to five local schools to support literacy and education initiatives.
