The City of Mount Zion recently purchased land along Highway 16 with plans for what city officials say will be a commercial development. City Clerk Teresa Ferguson said the lot is located at 3910 Mount Zion Road at the intersection of Highway 16 and Burwell-Mount Zion Road.

“The Mayor and City Council had discussed building a commercial development at the location during a recent council meeting,” said Ferguson. “The Mayor had brought up possibly building some kind of City co-op store or gas station in which members would get discounted prices.”

Work crews recently began clearing the lot in preparation for construction. Ferguson noted that the City had not decided on exactly what kind of commercial development would be build at the site, but said that the issue will likely be discussed during upcoming City Council meetings.
