Always wanted to run a 5K, but lack the motivation to lace up your running shoes and get off the couch? Or maybe you’re looking to make the transition from walking to running, but don’t know where to start.
Either way, Tanner Health System’s Get Healthy, Live Well has a free program just for you.
Get Healthy, Live Well has partnered with West Georgia Track Club to develop Move It Mondays, an eight-week program designed to turn walkers into joggers. The program helps participants add distance and increase their pace over the course of eight weeks. Certified coaches and experienced runners are available to encourage and motivate participants along the way.
The next session of Move It Mondays will begin on Aug. 27, with a meet and greet from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton in Classrooms 4 and 5. Regular meetings for the program will begin Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. on the walking trail on the Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton campus. Parking will be available in the Clinic Avenue Parking Deck on the third floor or above.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, adults need at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity every week, and Move It Mondays will help give you the jumpstart you need. In addition to helping improve fitness, getting more physical activity can help improve your mood and reduce stress. It can also reduce the risk of cancer, depression, heart disease, high cholesterol, obesity, osteoporosis and type 2 diabetes.
