Costco Awaiting Rezoning Approval by Coweta County

Plans for a new Costco store at Newnan’s Fischer Crossing area have not officially been submitted to Coweta County, but the company is asking for a rezoning of the property for a possible new store along Fischer Road. The proposed store would be located directly across from Sam’s Club.

County officials told The City Menus on Thursday that Southern Trust Capital is seeking a rezoning of a 5.26-acre property from “Rural Conservation” to C-7, Commercial Major Shopping District.

The rezoning will go before the Board of Zoning Appeals on August 28. If approved, the item will then go before a County Commissioners meeting for approval.

The 5.26-acre tract is expected to act as a stormwater management pond for the proposed Costco location. City officials said that no official plans for the proposed Costco store have been submitted to the County as of August 23.

The City Menus reporters spotted soil testing being conducted at the site on April 3 in preparation for the proposed development. Click here to read the original post from The Newnan Menu Facebook page.

Our reporters contacted Costco’s corporate offices, but officials from the company declined to comment at this time on the potential for a new location in Newnan. More updates could be provided two to three months before construction begins on a new location.

Costco is a membership-only warehouse club chain that has more than 750 warehouse locations worldwide. The company was originally founded in Seattle in 1976 and has since grown into one of the nation’s most popular membership-only club stores.
