Pop up shops are quickly becoming popular this year especially during the holidays. One local book publisher, Steve McCondichie recently opened a pop-up shop on the front porch of his business. Southern Fried Books opened this month at 29 Jackson Street in Newnan. Steve tells us, “Newnan needed an independent bookstore again, so we decided to professionalize it with a popup bookstore.”
Southern Fried offers a wide variety with over 1,000 titles in stock from classic southern fiction to the latest NYT best-selling non-fiction to specialty books on bacon, bourbon, and barbecue. Each roll-in and roll-out book shelf was custom made by Franklin Fixtures in Cookeville, TN. Steve says, “The south, and especially Newnan, has a vibrant literary history. We wanted to resurrect independent book-selling in Coweta county and enhance the revitalization of downtown. In 2019, we intend to add author events, creative writing workshops, and maybe even a puppet show for the kids.”
The pop up shop hours are from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. Extended hours begin November 23rd. All major credit cards are accepted.
