The University of West Georgia’s Tanner Health System School of Nursing continues to blaze trails in its rankings among reputable institutions.

THSSON’s most recent ranking comes from Online-PhD-Degrees.com, which has ranked the 20 best online doctoral degrees in education programs. UWG’s ranking comes among several prestigious institutions, including Johns Hopkins University, the University of Florida, the University of Alabama and Texas A&M University.

The ranked schools provide students access to some of the most prestigious institutions in the world in flexible and approachable formats that sacrifice none of the excellent features of each program, the website states.

These 20 online doctoral education programs were chosen for several reasons that placed them ahead of other institutions, including student satisfaction according to acceptance and retention, notoriety, breadth of curricula and coursework, and student resources. They were also cross-referenced with other rankings and lists to ensure credibility and popularity.

UWG’s THSSON offers an Ed.D. in nursing education, which includes the knowledge and skills in theoretical and analytic approaches to the discovery and application of knowledge in nursing education. Its outcomes reflect the Core Competencies of Nurse Educators by the National League of Nursing (2005), offered 100 percent online, including a total of 60 semester hours.

“Our Ed.D. in Nursing Education program is designed to prepare nurses for all the roles of academicians – teaching, service and research,” said Dr. Jenny Schuessler, dean of the THSSON. “Although the program is still relatively new, our students and graduates are already known as excellent.”

The Bureau of Labor Statistics lists the job growth outlook of Ed.D. and Ph.D professionals at about 10 percent over the next eight years – faster than average, with a median annual salary of approximately $90,000 per year.

“This recognition is truly an honor,” Schuessler concluded. “It is a reflection of the great work of our excellent faculty and students.”

The THSSON was also recognized recently by GradSchoolHub.com as a top-two destination nationally for affordability and by U.S. News and World Report as one of the nation’s best online graduate programs.
