Contractors for the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) will begin bridge rehabilitation on Post Road Bridge over I-20 in Douglas County next week.

The bridge maintenance work requires the closure of the bridge to through traffic for approximately 45 days, beginning Monday, June 17 with the estimated completion date on or before July 31.

Message boards will be placed to give drivers advance notice of the detour and to direct drivers to the detour route as follows:

    • Take Mason Creek Road eastbound;
    • Turn left onto Cowan Mill Road eastbound;
    • Turn left turn onto Bright Star Road northbound;
    • Turn left turn onto SR 78 westbound; and
    • Turn left or right to access Post Road/Mann Road.

The work on Post Road is part of a six bridge rehabilitation project (PI M005699) in Douglas County; Tyson Road over I-20 Eastbound, Tyson Road over I-20 Westbound, Post Road over I-20, Liberty Road over I-20, Burnt Hickory Road over I-20, and North County Line Road over I-20.

The project includes raising the structures’ vertical clearance, bridge deck preservation (with polymer overlay), painting of steel beams, joint replacement where necessary, and stabilizing the superstructures and substructures.

Construction on each bridge will require 30-45 day detours for each bridge to ensure safety for workers and drivers.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and use signed detours, exercise caution, and reduce their speed while traveling through work zones. Before heading out, get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions. Call 511, visit 511ga.org, or download the Georgia 511 app.
