Georgia Department of Transportation contractors will continue lane closures on I-20 westbound between Sweetwater Creek and SR 5/Bill Arp Road in Douglas County for deep milling, inlay and resurfacing on the interstate. Motorists should expect traffic delays and plan for additional travel times, alternate modes of transportation and/or alternate routes to their destinations.
Weather permitting, these are the scheduled weekend lane closures at various locations on I-20 westbound in the project area:
- The right lane and right shoulder will be closed beginning 7:00 p.m. Friday, June 28 through 2:00 p.m. on Saturday; and
- The right lane will be closed beginning 7:00 p.m. Sunday, June 30 through 5:00 a.m. on Monday.
These activities are needed to improve the deteriorating condition of the roadway. Lane closures are needed to help ensure safety for drivers and workers, as large equipment and frequent truck movements are needed on-site for these activities.
Motorists traveling in the area are reminded to reduce their speeds while traveling through the work zone. As always, Georgia DOT encourages motorists to wear seatbelts, eliminate distractions behind the wheel, and plan their routes before getting on the road by calling 511 for real-time information on work status and traffic conditions.
