Eaters in east Alabama were suddenly surprised during 2019 when a few of their favorites closed. However, these closures are allowing other businesses to open. For instance, Mangos Cantina and Grill is opening soon in the former Outback location at 196 Spring Branch Road, which is next to Jefferson’s. Mangos has another location in Lincoln, Alabama.

Near this same location off Interstate 20 exit 185, The Anniston Star reports that a new indoor entertainment complex is in the works along with health-conscious shops. North of the interstate on this same exit, O’Charley’s reportedly closed in July 2019 after serving the area for 30 years.

In March 2019 Golden Corral closed, a longtime restaurant that opened alongside the Oxford Exchange at exit 188. At this time it is not known what will take its place.

Also at Oxford Exchange a few retail shops have closed, such as Lifeway Christian Store, Dress Barn, and the clothing retailer Rainbow.

Across the street from the sprawling Oxford Exchange shopping center is an array of new restaurants, including, Chicken Salad Chick and Five Guys. In addition, Rock and Roll Sushi will open directly between Chicken Salad Chick and Five Guys in 2020. Rock and Roll Sushi has several Alabama locations including Birmingham, Hoover, and Trussville.
