Through the speculation and rumors of various fast food restaurants eyeing a location around the Cedartown shopping center, Wendy’s was confirmed by a city official this week. Aimee Madden, Public Information Officer for the City of Cedartown, tells us, “I can tell you that Wendy’s will be coming back to Cedartown. It will be located in a parcel between Walmart and the Zippy’s car wash. Construction is expected to begin in February.” Cedartown’s Walmart Supercenter is located at 1585 Rome Highway.
The original home for Wendy’s was 302 North Main Street, which opened in 1984. In January of 2015 their business license was terminated and they shuttered around December 2014. The former Wendy’s site welcomed Popeyes, which opened in November of 2019. According to Aimee, Popeyes completely tore down the former Wendy’s building and built their new restaurant. Permits for Popeyes were issued in March of 2019.
In other city of Cedartown business news, a new cigar and spirits store is opening in the former location of Cedar and Smoke off Herbert Street. HON, a furniture manufacturer, is celebrating their 50th anniversary this month. A Verizon Wireless tower is under construction in the area of the North Industrial Park. Kroger at 730 North Main Street is currently undergoing a renovation to the store.
