Last week several followers reported dumpster containers on the site of the former restaurant Mellow Mushroom, which sits at the corner of Maple Street and South Street in Carrollton.

As of this morning, a full demolition of the longstanding building is taking place. Carrollton City Engineer Tommy Holland says, “The property owner is demolishing the former Mellow Mushroom building in hopes to make the area more attractive for a potential developer.”

In February of 2012 the Mellow Mushroom abruptly closed due to a “franchise disagreement.”  For nearly eight years the restaurant has sat empty, awaiting the right developer to come in and revive it. Now the landmark building at 805 Maple Street will be completely gone, and a 1.25 acre lot will welcome a new development. When originally built in 1981, the building hosted Dunkin’ Donuts.
