Zoo Atlanta Joins List of Closings

Information released by Zoo Atlanta via their website.

Effective at 5:30 p.m. on March 14, 2020, Zoo Atlanta is closed to the public. We expect to be closed through March 31, 2020, at a minimum and plan to re-assess our opening date on or before that time. While the decision to close was very difficult for us, we have done so in accordance with public health guidelines and in commitment to our Members, visitors, Zoo team and community.

We continue to follow the guidelines of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and those of state and local health agencies.

Where should I go for information on COVID-19?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is the best resource for useful, factual and up-to-date information on the virus.

How can I protect myself from COVID-19?

The best way to protect yourself from the virus is to avoid exposure to it by using the normal health precautions you would take to avoid illnesses such as the flu or the common cold.

  • If you are sick, stay home.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Wash your hands often and properly (soap and water, for at least 20 seconds).
  • If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces or objects.
  • If you must sneeze or cough and have no tissue available, do so in the inside of your elbow, not into your hands or into the air.

What are the symptoms of COVID 19?

Current reported symptoms include fever, cough and shortness of breath.

Can the animals be impacted by COVID 19?

There is not currently any information to suggest that Zoo animals or other animals are impacted by the virus. Our veterinary experts are in close contact with national and international networks to stay abreast of any new information on recommendations or risks.
