One of downtown Newnan’s admired shops for being “all things unique” is celebrating a milestone. Red Letter Merchant turned one year old during the coronavirus pandemic. The vintage boutique, located at 7 West Washington Street, opened during the 2019 Spring Taste of Newnan.
Shop owner Tony Caro told us then, “I wanted a great way to reduce, reuse, and recycle to stay green, to help reduce our carbon footprint.” The items in Tony’s shop are mainly vintage items from the past, such as Tony’s favorite era, the 90s. In addition, shoppers will find handmade jewelry, antiques, and all things unique.
To those who have traveled to Little Five Points in Atlanta, Red Letter Merchant shares a similar vibe. With the uncertainty surrounding local businesses’ being shuttered during the pandemic, Tony told us he wanted to show his commitment to opening back up. He said, “I had the best month before everything was closed. I wanted to do something for my business to prepare for another year. I renewed my business license.” In doing so, he knew he would be able to make it.
Red Letter Merchant’s social media presence has continued to grow. He adds, “I’ve been doing more content, and with that the store has been growing exponentially online with resale boxes, sales on Mercari, Depop, Facebook Marketplace, and eBay.” He also sends words of gratitude, “Thank you to my shoppers who are wanting to support small businesses. We will continue to get through this and be better than ever.”
