Downtown Bowdon’s Flicker + Flame Candle Co. is an all-natural shop filled with modern fragrances of candles and wax melts created and owned by Sadie Young.
“Flicker + Flame was pretty much an accident. While I was in pharmacy school and planning our wedding, I got the idea to buy my husband’s very first truck back to surprise him with it at our wedding as the getaway car. It was an old truck, nothing special to most people, but sentimental to him. Once I tracked the truck down and found it in terrible condition, I then realized my college intern money would not buy this truck back and fix it up. Then I started making and selling candles in hopes to earn enough money to pull off the ultimate surprise just in time for the wedding. To my surprise, people loved the candles. After a few months of saving and a lot of late nights pouring candles, I had just enough to write a check for the truck the week of the wedding. The demand for candles didn’t stop there, so neither did Flicker + Flame. Since then this company has evolved in so many ways. Nothing we do here at Flicker + Flame is traditional, and our location in downtown Bowdon is no exception. In January we will open the books for candle bar parties where guests get a behind-the-scenes, hands-on, candle-making experience. The perfect “something to do” place for birthdays, girl’s night, bachelorette parties, and other fun events,” explains Sadie on the origins and ideas behind the creation of Flicker + Flame.
“Shine, Girl, Shine” is the mission of Flicker + Flame, which is based on the scripture Matthew 5:16. “It’s a highly contagious mission. If I shine my light for The Lord, it brightens others around me; then their light shines on the people they come in contact with. By cultivating relationships with everyone who walks through our doors, we can shine our light to glorify God.” Sadie proudly reveals.
She happily continues “The Bowdon community and surrounding communities have supported me from day one. I did my very first candle pickup in the Piggly Wiggly parking lot. I see so much potential for downtown Bowdon and want to bring it back to life. This community has allowed me to find purpose and plans that were far beyond my imagination. I made a plan for my life, but like Proverbs 19:21 says, “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” I want to thank the community for faithfully supporting me through sharing on social media, spreading the word, purchasing candles, and always showing up for our events. Flicker + Flame is built on this community, and I am forever grateful.”
