LaGrange Youth Council Presents Year of Accomplishments to the Mayor and City Council

Youth council members spent the year working on three main projects focusing on mentorship, sustainability & mental health. The group voted earlier in the year to adopt these issues. The youth council members presenting to the Mayor and Council include Chairperson Milly Criswell, Vice-Chairperson Addie Eiland, Mentorship Committee Chairperson Sydney Edelson, Sustainability Committee Chairperson Devin Dents & Mental Health Commission Chairperson Riley Whitlow.

The Mentorship Committee hosted a pizza and ice skating party for the Boys and Girls Club of West Georgia at Sweetland Amphitheatre. The Sustainability Committee raised nearly $1,200 at their “I Sweat Green” Fun Run Fundraiser with all of the money raised going to Calumet Park Neighborhood’s Community Garden called Pat’s Garden. The Mentorship Committee plans to host a free Mental Health Night at Sweetland Amphitheatre Monday, May 2nd. This event will include a mental health panel of professionals and a showing of the movie “Holden On.”

After the presentation, the Mayor and Council attended a social to fellowship with the youth council at Visit LaGrange.

LaGrange Youth Council logo3The LaGrange Youth Council is an advisory board composed of local youth that provide advice and counsel to the local governing body. The Youth Council give our local youth a more formal role in the local decision making process. This group is made up of junior and senior high school students from surrounding public and private schools.
