City of LaGrange Employee Honored for 25 Years of Dedicated Service

The City of LaGrange is honoring LaGrange Fire  Department Sgt. Gary Atkins for his dedicated 25 years of service.

Atkins received his 25-year service pin at the regular LaGrange City Council  meeting Tuesday (4/26) night.  

Atkins started his career with LaGrange Fire Department in 1996. Throughout his  career, he has gained many certifications in the fire and medical fields. He gained  his Paramedic certification in 2004 and was promoted to Sergeant in 2006. He has  

worked part-time at Lanett Fire Department, Lanett EMS and West Point Fire  Department. 

LFD Lt. Gary L. Atkins was born February 12, 1964 in Joliet, Illinois to Charles and  Shirley Atkins. He has three brothers Roger, Darin, and Paul. In 1986, Atkins  moved to Alabama. He married his wife Anna a year later on June 6, 1987.  Together they have three sons Daniel, Stephen and Caleb, and nine grandchildren.  

During Gary’s time off he likes playing golf, going to the gym, and playing with his  dog McDuff. Gary is a devoted Christian who has been a youth pastor since he was  20 years old. He now teaches an Adult Sunday School Class, is a worship leader,  and even preaches sometimes.
