The Carroll County Community Theatre will bring the beloved film, Steel Magnolias, to life onstage at the Carrollton Center for the Arts, March 10 – 12 and 17 – 19.
Steel Magnolias is a comedy-drama by Robert Harling about the bond among a group of women in northwest Louisiana.
“The movie, Steel Magnolias, is one of my all time favorites,” said Carrollton Arts Superintendent Tim Chapman. “The script has some great one-liners I still use today in conversation. I cannot wait to see our local actors bring this funny, beautiful play to the stage that evokes the greatest emotion a person can have: laughter through tears.”
The show’s director, Patrick J. Yuran, has directed the stage show twice before but said he is particularly looking forward to taking the helm of Steel Magnolias for a third time.
“Unlike the previous two times, I am at a place in my life where I can hear Robert Harling’s voice with a sense of clarity,” said Yuran. “I can feel his journey through the process of grieving for his sister in the mix of warm, honest and witty dialogue. I connect with the complexities of the characters and embrace their journey with new-found understanding. This twenty-five-year friendship with Shelby, M’Lynn, Annelle, Truvy, Clairee and Ouiser has made me grateful for the wonderful women in my life and taught me to never underestimate the influence of strong, southern women.”
This production of Steel Magnolias is sponsored by United Community Bank.
Tickets for the performance are $15 for adults, $10 for youth and are on sale at the center’s box office or online at carrolltonarts.com.
