Central High School senior Katarina Spurlock was awarded the University of West Georgia Phil McDowell Scholarship. She plans to study nursing in the fall.

The scholarship is awarded to deserving students from Carroll County Schools wishing to further their education at the University of West Georgia. Recipients are selected based on academic achievement, financial need, and an essay prepared for the scholarship committee.

The Phil McDowell Scholarship was established in 2006 by the family and friends of Phil McDowell to honor his memory. Mr. McDowell graduated from Central High School in 1982 and attended the University of West Georgia.
