If you’re like me traveling all over west Georgia, you’ll notice many red, solid-waste collection cans bearing the words “Bowdon Disposal” popping up everywhere. What you might not know is that this little idea was inspired about forty years ago between childhood friends in Bowdon, Brant Ledbetter and Lanny Smith. Brant told us, “We maintained this very close friendship our entire lives, and about two years ago we decided to start a company that was honestly more of a community partner than a service. Our friendship has always been built around our love for our small town.”
Brant continued, “We just really want to take care of our family, friends, and customers but also have an impact on people like they had on us growing up.” In the last year Bowdon Disposal has helped twenty or so graduating seniors from Bowdon High School with scholarships that the school distributed to qualifying seniors through an application process. They have also sponsored Music in the Park and purchased much needed equipment for local law enforcement.
Bowdon Disposal serves several counties surrounding the Bowdon area including Carroll, Haralson, and Heard. Brant reiterates, “We want to be a partner again as opposed to just a provider, we treat all our customers like family, including our billing which has different options to suit everyone’s needs.” The solid waste partner even offers white glove service for those that can’t bring the can to the road. They will come up the driveway and handle everything for the client. Brant adds, “We really try to bring the trash service to you on your level. We’re going to let you tell us what you need and fulfill.”
When asked about future expansion, Brant excitedly stated, “We are currently bidding to be community partners for trash service in other cities in the area, in which each city would have its own name and school colors for the branding.”
