West Georgia Regional Library System Appoints Kristy Greene as New Library Director Carrollton, GA

The West Georgia Regional Library System (WGRLS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Kristy Greene as the new Library Director, effective August 6th. Greene previously served the region as Deputy Director, as well as in other positions in the region since 2014.

The previous Director, Stephen Houser, announced his resignation last month. His last day in office will be July 25, 2025. He is moving on to be Deputy Director of Multnomah County Library in Portland, Oregon. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve the community in West Georgia and all that has been accomplished in my 4 years here. I appreciate the support of our community partners, friends of the library, and trustees. Our West Georgia libraries are in great shape, with a bright future of service to our community ahead of us!”

“We are incredibly proud to have Kristy Greene accept the position of WGRLS Director. Her abilities and foresight will push WGRL System forward in the coming years,” states WGRLS Board of Trustees Chair, Pat Rakestraw.

In her position as Deputy Director, Greene oversaw the region’s Strategic Plan, and now steps into a new leadership role to guide the region forward. As Library Director, Greene will lead WGRLS’ 19 libraries across Carroll, Douglas, Haralson, Heard, and Paulding counties, providing strategic vision and day-to-day leadership for one of Georgia’s largest regional library systems.

Greene says, “The libraries in our system are near to my heart. These libraries are where I took my own children to story times and summer reading programs, and these libraries are where I started my public library career. I am honored to be the next Director and support and advocate for the resources, services, and programs our libraries provide to the citizens of WGRLS’ five counties.”

The West Georgia Regional Library System looks forward to the vision and leadership Greene will bring as it continues to adapt to the evolving needs of its patrons.
