Bay Springs Middle School Spanish Teacher Selected for SCOLT Leadership

Bay Springs Middle School Spanish teacher, Mr. Kaleb Hyatt, has been selected by the Southern Conference on Language Teaching (SCOLT) to join the 2026–2027 cohort of the SCOLT Institute for Language Leadership (SCILL)

SCILL is a competitive, year-long leadership program designed to support emerging leaders in world language education across the Southeast region. Selected participants demonstrate strong potential for leadership, a commitment to reflective practice, and a deep dedication to supporting language learning in their schools and communities.

Throughout the year, Hyatt will participate in a structured leadership experience that begins with a kickoff seminar at the first SCOLT Conference and concludes with a culminating session at the following year’s conference. Between these two in-person events, participants will engage in monthly virtual meetings and individualized leadership coaching. During this period, they will explore second language acquisition, current pedagogical practices, reflective instructional work, and the foundational skills needed to lead effectively in their local and regional contexts.

SCOLT Executive Director Dr. Leslie Baldwin shared,“We are thrilled to welcome Kaleb Hyatt into the SCILL cohort. His dedication to students and commitment to the profession make him an ideal emerging leader in world language education.”

The SCILL program—open to educators in the 14-state SCOLT region—prepares participants to become thoughtful, reflective leaders who advocate for strong language programs and support colleagues across their schools, districts, and states.

The Southern Conference on Language Teaching (SCOLT) is a regional professional organization supporting world language educators across the southeastern United States, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. SCOLT provides professional development, leadership training, advocacy, and recognition for excellence in language education.
