Sewell Market Co. Brings New Life to Historic Sewell Manufacturing Building in Downtown Bremen

A new chapter is taking shape in downtown Bremen as Sewell Market Co. prepares to open inside the former Sewell Manufacturing Building, transforming a long standing industrial space into a vibrant community marketplace while preserving its deep local roots.

The vision for Sewell Market Co. began taking shape within the past year, when efforts started to clean up and assess the building’s future. As plans developed, the goal became clear to create something meaningful for Bremen while keeping the structure as close to its original form as possible. The concept of Sewell Market Co. emerged as a way to honor the building’s history while giving it new life as a place for the community and surrounding areas to gather, shop, and enjoy.

Set to open in Spring 2026, the three story market will feature hundreds of independently operated vendor booths offering a wide range of goods including home decor, antiques, clothing, furniture both new and vintage, and more. An on site coffee shop with seating is also planned, adding to the welcoming atmosphere and encouraging visitors to spend time inside the restored space.

Preserving the character of the building remains central to the project. Original elements are being thoughtfully incorporated into the design, including pieces from the historic freight elevator that once served the facility for decades. While the building will be updated with a brand new elevator to better serve vendors and shoppers, parts of the original elevator will remain as decorative features, helping keep the story of the building visible throughout the market.

A unique connection to the past continues within the building through Sewell Clothing, which still operates on site. In a dedicated space, skilled employees remain at work sewing, cutting fabric, and hand pressing garments, continuing the craftsmanship that has been part of the building since Sewell Clothing was established in 1928. Recent before and after glimpses of the shared space with Blue Lion Apparel Outlet have already highlighted the scale of transformation underway.

Interest from potential vendors has been phenomenal, with applications coming in from a wide variety of businesses. While some vendors have already been secured, organizers are still reviewing submissions and plan to introduce confirmed vendors closer to the opening date.

Because of the complexity that comes with remodeling an older structure, a more specific opening date has not yet been set. The team hopes to be further along in the renovation process before announcing a particular month or day.

Sewell Market Co. will be located at 115 Pacific Avenue in Bremen. Those interested in becoming a vendor can request more information by emailing [email protected]. Updates and progress will continue to be shared as restoration work moves forward and opening day approaches.
