This month’s regular Board meeting began with a special presentation recognizing parent and business partner Mr. Adam Hanes for the time, money, and effort he contributed to the initiative to acquire a mobile electronic board for Bremen City Schools. The Board presented Mr. Hanes with Bremen gear as a token of appreciation.
The Board tentatively approved the consolidated budget for this school year. A public hearing will be held on August 28, with final approval expected immediately afterward. Budget details are available on the school system’s website for public review.
All consent agenda items were unanimously approved by the Board. These included six new Board policies that were left open for public review following last month’s meeting, two contracts for services, a resolution with TEQlease, a recommendation to purchase track equipment, and fundraising requests from individual schools.
New Chromebooks have been rolled out to students in grades three through twelve. Additionally, 33.29% of students are currently participating in the free and reduced-price lunch program, the highest percentage the school system has ever recorded. Construction on the new building at the high school track is also nearing completion.
The Board concluded its regular meeting with unanimous approval of all personnel actions. These included one resignation, three transfers, and three parental leave requests. In addition, six new employees were approved, including three cafeteria workers, a paraprofessional, a substitute nurse, and a substitute teacher.
The Board then voted to enter an executive session to discuss the Superintendent’s evaluation and contract. Chairman Vann Pelt recommended that the Board offer Superintendent Christian a one-year contract extension and a 4% raise. Both recommendations were unanimously approved.
