Heflin Industrial and Economic Development Board are excited to announce Dollar General will be opening a store in the Fall of 2017.

On Thursday morning, The Broadway Group purchased a little over 2 acres from Charles and Sheila Hunt for the development of the nationally renowned retail chain. The Broadway Group, LLC, headquartered in Huntsville, AL, is a commercial real estate company specializing in the planning, selection, development and construction of new retail storefronts and spaces all across the United States. With Bob Broadway at the head, The Broadway Group has developed hundreds of DG’s around the US.

Bob Broadway says of the project, “Dollar General is a great client for us that we have been working with for years. Projects such as this one are even sweeter for us because we know that the client will have a significant impact on the community. We are excited to get started.”

Founded by the Turner family in 1939 in Kentucky, Dollar General is a nationally known brand with now over 13,000 stores in 43 states. The company remains true to the humble ethic of hard work and friendly customer service embodied by the founding family.

County Commissioner Laura Cobb and Tanya Maloney, Heflin’s Economic Developer, first reached out to Dollar General in the fall of 2015 to make the case for a Fruithurst store.

“Tanya Maloney, Heflin’s Industrial and Economic Development Board, and the Hunt family have worked this project from start to close for almost two years. Retail deals are few and far between these days, and I am happy that the City of Heflin Industrial Board and the City of Heflin could help bring this development home for Fruithurst,” said Jay Grubbs, Chairman of the Board.

Chris Owens, Mayor of Fruithurst, welcomes the store. “Fruithurst is glad to welcome the jobs, tax revenue and local consumer options this economic development deal will bring to community.”

The Broadway Group will break ground immediately with a mid-September target date for opening.
