The town of Kramer was incorporated on September 5, 1883, and given the name Bremen. It was originally named for a German immigrant who owned a local vineyard, but the name was changed at Kramer’s request to honor the city of Bremen, Germany. Bremen’s economy was given a significant boost when the Chattanooga, Rome, and Columbus Railroad was built, crossing the Georgia Pacific at Bremen. This and other favorable circumstances helped Bremen grow from a simple railroad junction settled by German immigrants to the largest town in Haralson County, Georgia.
Under the laws of the State of Georgia the City if Bremen was incorporated on September 5, 1883. Our 135th birthday prompts us to celebrate our past as well as our future. Please mark your calendars for a few planned activities during the coming month.
On September 5th Mill Town Music Hall and the City of Bremen cordially invite you to a Bremen Birthday Bash at Mill Town! Join us at 7:00 p.m. as we come together to celebrate community. Look forward to entertainment by some of our finest local musicians. Cocomotion is a pop/rock group featuring Cory Pearson and several other members of the southern gospel Diplomats. Our local American Idol contestant, Andrew Weaver, will certainly wow us with his music. Then Tried and True, an acoustic band, will treat us to music that has stood the test of time. Johnny Wright, David Milford, and Randy Garrett will play a broad mix of pop favorites from the 50’s – 70’s and country favorites from the 80’s and 90’s. Sometime in among all the evening’s good music we will join in to sing “Happy Birthday, Bremen.” Admission is free, so carpool with your friends, families, and neighbors and come on down to Mill Town Music Hall.
The Grill at 222 has invited everyone to a street party from 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. on September 15th and October 6th. Ty Cartwright and his crew will be serving up some fine fun, food, and music.
You don’t want to miss “Bremen On Parade” at the Hamilton McPherson Performing Arts Center on September 25th from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. “Bremen On Parade” is a “moving picture” that was made of downtown Bremen in 1946. It captures scenes of downtown Bremen, classes of students moving about our schools, factory workers crowding the sidewalks during their lunch hours, and views of downtown stores. It will be fascinating for young and old alike. The film was the property of the late Mr. E. B. Jones, Jr., and his family is graciously sharing it with us. The film will play constantly during this time slot, so you can drop by and watch as much as you like. Folks are also working on historical exhibits for the lobby. We hope to see you at the Performing Arts Center on Georgia Avenue near Bremen High School.
October 5th is another big day. At 11:30 a.m we will dedicate the Bremen Depot Park. In the afternoon and evening, our community will join Bremen City Schools in celebrating Homecoming. Several local businesses, churches, and other organizations have already committed to submitting a float in the Bremen High School Homecoming Parade. We hope many more of you will participate as well. Choose a float theme that recognizes Bremen’s history and birthday, build the float, and join us for the parade! Let her know you plan to participate so she can work with the school to coordinate activities. At the conclusion of the Bremen High Homecoming Football Game we will celebrate our community and its past, present, and future with our annual fireworks festivity.
