Carrollton is getting a Whataburger! According to the City of Carrollton, Whataburger has submitted civil plans for review. The proposed location is the former BB&T building at 1119 South Park Street. This is an outparcel of the Target/Belk/Publix-anchored McIntosh Plaza.
While this isn’t permitting for construction, the site design review is the next step in a possible location for Whataburger. City officials recently met with Whataburger’s engineers regarding the project. The civil plans do show removal of the existing building that is seen in the photo.
For those unfamiliar, Whataburger is a popular fast food burger restaurant with a cult-like following. The restaurant’s menu is diverse with offerings including burgers, sandwiches, salads, and fries but also a breakfast menu (served 11:00 P.M. until 11:00 A.M.) that includes taquitos, biscuits, pancakes, bowls, cinnamon rolls, and more!
In their Atlanta area eateries Whataburger has opened their drive-thru first and then a few weeks later opened their dining room, too. This process will likely continue to occur as the chain expands locally. That said, nearly all Whataburger restaurants are open 24/7!
Whataburger for several years has operated a single Georgia location in Thomasville. This past November, the company opened their first Atlanta area location in Kennesaw. A second Atlanta area location opened on Highway 92 in Woodstock this past January. Additional locations later opened in Cumming and Buford. Most recently, a new Whataburger debuted in nearby Newnan August 9.
The company has said it plans to open several more locations in Georgia in 2023, including those planned for Atlanta, Monroe, Covington, Kennesaw, Athens, Snellville and Dawsonville, among others. Our publishing partner ToNeTo Atlanta has in recent months reported on additional Whataburger restaurants planned for Alpharetta, Roswell, Duluth, Grayson, and Dahlonega. The San Antonio-based chain has Texas-sized aspirations of having 50 new Whataburger restaurants opening in Georgia by 2030.
