The Producers, an Atlanta band with a local connection, returns to rock the Amp, Saturday, October 7 at 8pm.
The new wave power pop band includes Van Temple on guitar and vocals, Kyle Henderson on bass and vocals, Wayne “Famous” McNatt on keyboards and Carrollton native Bryan Holmes on drums.
Originally a Beatles cover band, the group began performing their own material in nightclubs around the Atlanta area to a good response. They were signed to Portrait Records and released two albums for the label: The Producers (1981) and You Make the Heat (1982). The band became a favorite in the Southeast, propelling What She Does to Me onto the national Billboard Magazine singles charts. What’s He Got, Certain Kinda Girl, Who Do You Think You Are and She Sheila were popular as music videos on MTV. The band toured extensively in the early 1980s, opening for Cheap Trick and The Motels. They headlined MTV’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve broadcast in 1982.
Run For Your Life, the third Producers album was released in 1985 and featured Can’t Cry Anymore, a collaboration between The Producers and Kansas. Their fourth album, Coelacanth, was released in 2001.
Although the band officially retired in 1991, The Producers often reunite for live shows.
Cory Estes will open the show.
The Carrollton concert is sponsored by Scott Evans Nissan and Scott Evans Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Ram.
