The Carrollton Wind Ensemble invites audiences to experience a classic film thriller in a whole new way as they accompany the 1925 silent movie, Phantom of the Opera, with a new original score, October 19 – 20 at 7:30pm.
The show at the Carrollton Center for the Arts features a commissioned score by Elijah Green, a recent graduate of the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Green is an alum of Central High School, a former Carroll Symphony Orchestra Young Composer winner, multi-instrumentalist, singer, producer, conductor and composer.
“It is exciting to witness Elijah’s success as he begins his career in the world of film and video game scoring,” said the ensemble’s conductor, Terry Lowry.
The titular phantom is played by the legendary Lon Chaney, known as silent film’s “Man of a Thousand Faces” due to his ability to transform himself into an array of characters with vastly different physical appearances using makeup techniques that he developed.
“We wanted to offer alternative experiences during the Halloween season that would appeal to a broader audience,” said Center for the Arts Manager Tim Chapman. “Phantom of the Opera felt like the perfect project, especially when you pair it with the Carrollton Wind Ensemble performing live.”
