The City of LaGrange is honoring LaGrange Fire Department Lieutenant Dusty Helton for his dedicated 25 years of service.
Lt. Helton was born and raised in Troup County and graduated from Troup High School in 1992. After high school, he attended Southern Union and West Ga Tech where he became an EMT and started his public safety career working for Troup County EMS in 1994. While working for Troup County EMS, he received EMT of the year in 1995 and became the Supply Officer overseeing all equipment.
Helton began his career with the LaGrange Fire Department on March 18th, 1999. Shortly after being hired, he completed paramedic school and obtained his paramedic license. During his career at LaGrange Fire Department, Helton obtained more than 100 certifications relating to Fire and EMS. For more than 20 years he taught classes not only to his colleagues but also to the community of LaGrange. Dusty has filled in as EMS Training Officer, Infectious Disease Control Officer, and EMS Coordinator for the LaGrange Fire Department. He also served for many years as a Paramedic for the LaGrange Police Department Emergency Services Unit.
During his years of service, Helton was awarded multiple life saving awards and unit citations. In his 25 years of service, Lt. Helton has enjoyed serving his community and loved working alongside the men and women who have become family to him.
