Carrollton’s Amp Concert Series continues July 13 at 8pm with Georgia rock and funk legends Mother’s Finest.
The group was founded in Atlanta in 1970 by the vocal duo of Joyce “Baby Jean” Kennedy and Glenn “Doc” Murdock, guitarist Gary “Moses Mo” Moore and bassist Jerry “Wyzard” Seay. Their music is a blend of funky rhythms, heavy rock guitars and soul/R&B-style vocals.
The band charted with the singles Fire, Baby Love, Don’t Wanna Come Back, Love Changes, and Piece of the Rock in the mid-to-late 1970s. These and other songs, like Thank You for the Love and their cover of Smokey Robinson’s Mickey’s Monkey have kept the band’s fans rocking hard and funky at their high energy shows for more than fifty years.
Mother’s Finest was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in 2011.
Fellow Georgia rockers, Run Katie Run, open the show.
This concert is sponsored by Scott Evans Nissan and Scott Evans Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Ram.
All events at the Amp are free. No professional photography is allowed during shows at the Amp. Please visit carrolltonga.com/amp for updates, venue guidelines and policies.
